Potato "Timo", or "Timo Khankkiyan", from the originator Boreal Plant Breeding-LTD belongs to the early ripening varieties of tableware very popular with potato growers and consumers. The potato of this variety bred by Finnish breeders fully ripens in 60-70 days and is recommended for cultivation in the Northern, North-Western and Central regions.
The characteristic given by the originator of the Timo potato variety is known to many gardeners in the regions that belong to the risky farming zone. The bushes are low and very compact, with a high level of leafyness, consisting of light green stems. The leaves are large. Corollas of flowers are bluish-violet.
Root crops of Timo potatoes are formed round, they are covered with a smooth peel of light beige, closer to yellow, color. The eyes are medium set, medium-sized. The pulp of the potato of this variety is light yellow, with a content of 12-14% starch. The average mass of marketable tubers is 75-125 g. The total yield during the implementation of early digging reaches 240 kg / ha, and with late harvesting is about 320 kg / ha.
The potato with the unusual name "Timo Khankkiyan" has a large number of positive characteristics. The main advantages of this variety are represented by a very high resistance to prolonged frost and heat.

Marketability depends on many factors and can vary from 69 to 91%.
How to plant potatoes
Very often, low potato yields, especially those bred by foreign breeders, are a direct result of improper pre-planting preparation of tubers. Timo seed potatoes should begin to be prepared for planting in about a month. Harvesting before late blight reduces the need for pre-planting treatment of tubers from this disease. The average period from seedlings to the onset of full technical maturity of tubers is 60-70 days, provided that the seed material is properly prepared for planting:
- selection of the most healthy potato tubers;
- calibration of seed material by size and weight;
- cutting the largest, but suitable for planting potato tubers;
- germination under lighting (or vernalization to grow sprouts) and heating of potato tubers;
- processing of seed material with micronutrient solutions and protective agents.
Soaking tubers prepared for planting in solution with the addition of ammonium nitrate and superphosphate is effective. It is advisable to dust the tubers with ash, which contains a maximum of nutrients that are useful for the growth and development of potatoes. Wood ash helps to increase the starch content in potato pulp by 1-2% and allows you to get tubers with high flavoring characteristics.
Powder dusting with wood ash before planting will not require significant expenditures of effort and money, which is especially important when growing Timo Khankkiyan potatoes in small kitchen gardens and household plots, but this technique is characterized by high agrotechnical and economic efficiency.

In areas that are heavily littered with annual and biennial weeds, it is advisable to use herbicides that are approved for use before growing potatoes. It is very important to carry out the right care measures throughout the growing season:
- Hilling potato plantings improves soil friability and improves conditions for tuberization, as well as minimize clogging of the planted area by weeds. In dry periods, hilling often provokes soil drying out and lower yields, so it is advisable to replace such an event with shallow loosening of the soil.
- Important plants on time "feed". Over the entire period of growth and development of potatoes, approximately 60-90% of nitrogen, 25-30% of phosphorus and 70-85% of potash fertilizers are used.
- Watering able to increase productivity, especially if irrigation measures are carried out during the period of budding and flowering.
Harvesting should begin after lodging and yellowing the tops. However, the trial or first digging is carried out after a month and a half after planting. The quality of the harvest depends on proper storage. The main reason for the decrease in the shelf life of tubers of this variety is the non-observance of the temperature regime and the complete absence of ventilation in the vegetable store.

How to prepare tubers for planting
However, according to many potato growers, the Finnish potato novelty did not take root on Russian soil and shows very mediocre results when grown. Gardeners also note that the variety is affected faster than others by late blight, and without the use of powerful chemicals there is an opportunity to get a crop that is completely corroded by wireworms. This variety realizes the potential for the formation of two crops per season only in Belgorod, Kursk, Voronezh and other areas located to the south.
